A Birthday Gift
On her seventh birthday, Mia’s grandmother handed her a small clay pot. Inside was a little green plant with two shiny leaves. “This is for you,” Grandma said. “If you care for it, it will grow tall and strong.”
Mia clapped her hands. “Thank you! I’ll take good care of it.” She placed the pot on her windowsill, where the sun streamed in every morning.
A Forgotten Promise
For the first few days, Mia remembered to water the plant. She poured just the right amount, sang a little song, and smiled as the leaves stretched toward the light.
But soon, Mia got busy. There was homework to finish, games to play, and shows to watch. The little plant sat quietly, its leaves drooping lower each day.
One evening, Grandma visited. She peered at the wilted leaves. “Oh dear. What happened to your plant, Mia?”
Mia’s cheeks flushed. “I… forgot,” she admitted. “It looked fine, so I thought it didn’t need me.”
Learning Responsibility
Grandma crouched beside her. “Plants are like promises. They need attention every day. A little care goes a long way.”
Mia felt a lump in her throat. “I didn’t mean to let it down. Can I fix it?”
“Of course,” Grandma smiled. “Start today. Give it water, kindness, and patience.”
Mia hurried to fetch a cup of water. She poured gently, then whispered, “I won’t forget again.”
Watching It Grow
The next morning, the plant looked a little brighter. Each day after school, Mia checked the soil, gave water when needed, and dusted the leaves. Slowly, new shoots appeared. The plant grew taller, stretching proudly toward the sun.
Weeks later, tiny flower buds peeked from the stem. When they finally blossomed—white and pink, like little stars—Mia’s heart swelled.
“I did it,” she whispered. “I kept my promise.”
Grandma hugged her. “You did more than that, Mia. You learned that responsibility makes things grow—not just plants, but you too.”
That night, Mia drifted to sleep with a smile. In her dreams, she wandered through a garden filled with flowers she had cared for—bright proof that a little attention each day can bloom into something beautiful.
The End.
